Directions & Details

Every great journey begins with a single step forward, a step towards hope. On Saturday May 2, 2009, NAMI MC will participate in the 2009 NAMI Walk at the University of Maryland in College Park. We need your help to take major strides to heighten awareness and raise funds for NAMI MC’s programs that support, educate and advocate for those in our community who are living with mental illness. Won’t you join us?

But walking is more than fundraising; stigma is eliminated and acceptance becomes mainstream when people support the walk. We ask that you take a stand against the stigmatization of mental illness by joining NAMI MC’s team, MoCoMotion, or by organizing your own team.

To get started, go to the online registration system, you can create your personal walker page, register your team name so others can join, make secure online donations and more.

If you’re unable to participate as a walker, there are so many ways you can get involved and meet a lot of great people in the process— you can make a donation to the team, volunteer to work the day of the event, or help by becoming a business sponsor for the walk.

For more information on the 2009 NAMI Walk, contact Esther Kaleko-Kravitz at walk@namimc.org or 301-949-5852.

NAMI's Campaign for the Mind of America is a multi-year effort on many fronts to promote investment in recovery and to prevent the abandonment of yet another generation of Americans with mental illnesses to neglect and hopelessness. The Campaign highlights the need to build a comprehensive, efficient system to screen, evaluate, diagnose and treat mental illnesses at every stage of life. This effort includes the NAMI Walk to raise money and awareness about our country's need for a world-class treatment and recovery system for people with mental illness.
