The NAMI MD Public Policy Committee meets every month on the first Saturday of the month. The committee works on legislative issues from January to March and the rest of the year clarifies positions on many issues related to individuals with mental illness. New members, new faces and new ideas are always welcome!
NAMI MD System Reform Committee...
The Southern Branch of the NAMI MD System Reform committee meets at the NAMI Montgomery County offices on the third Monday of the month at 6:30 PM. This committee is working on developing recommendations for the Maryland Transformation committee as well as developing priorities and guidelines for our work on transforming or reforming the Public Mental Health system.

- Workforce Education
- De-escalation training for Criminal Justice Personnel - Develop
and promote more training for criminal justice professionals
and paraprofessionals – including judges probation
officers, etc – to learn about mental illness and learn techniques
for de-escalating crisis situations
- Serving the Hard to Serve/Access to Care
- Increase the number of ACT Teams
- Decriminalization of Mental Illness
- Bring Mental Health Courts to each county
