NAMI MC Advocacy Committee

The NAMI MC Advocacy Committee is comprised of board members, volunteers, family members and consumers. At the beginning of each fiscal year the Chair of the committee presents its advocacy priorities to the Board.  Then the Board decides and votes on the priorities for the coming year. The NAMI MC Advocacy Committee meets monthly and more frequently as needed.  This committee develops and oversees the relationships between NAMI MC and the community boards, councils, agencies and other organizations.Individuals interesting in becoming new members are welcome to attend meetings.

•Priorities•

  • Implementation of a mental health court in Montgomery County.
  • Additional funding for case management and affordable housing for consumers.
  • Identify the Montgomery County continuum of Behavioral Health available, and determine if there are any gaps in services. We would need to have information to identify the capacity of each service, and if each resource is operating at maximum capacity, if they have a waiting list or if they need additional staffing to support their needs.
  • Ensure that any transition from the Montgomery County run ACT Team (which was cut from the recently released budget) to a state run program is efficient and that all clients are transitioned appropriately.
  • Advocate for a Family Outreach specialist in the Core Service Agency.
