NAMI Montgomery County (NAMI MC) is the Montgomery County, Maryland affiliate of National Alliance on Mental Illness which is headquartered in Arlington, Virginia.
NAMI MC is a non-profit grassroots organization dedicated to improving the lives of those impacted by mental illnesses in Montgomery County, Maryland.
Since 1978, NAMI MC has provided self-help, support, education and advocacy for people with serious and persistent mental illnesses (often called “consumers”), their families, friends and caregivers.
•Our Mission•
- Provide information, education, and support for people who live with mental illness, their families and caregivers.
- Enhance and promote the ability of those impacted by mental illness to be their own best advocate in their daily struggles.
- Advocate through partnerships and coalitions toward legislative action that improves the quality of life for those impacted by mental illness.
- Combat the stigma of mental illness through community outreach and education.

Mental illnesses are biologically based brain disorders that can profoundly disrupt a person’s ability to think, feel, and relate to their environment and others.
